The Heart Has Found Peace

I stood brushing the dust from my hands after we had laid my gentle grandfather’s body into the earth.

I cast one final glance toward that cold grave, and a deep chill swept through my chest, as though a piece of my own soul had been buried there beside him.

And I remembered the last words I said to him:

“I love you, Grandpa… I will never forget your kindness as long as I live.”

I returned home, collapsed onto my bed, and imagined once more the corner where he always sat in the guest room.

I recalled his warm features, the wrinkles of his hands gently brushing over my head, and the stories he used to tell me about my future — a future he believed would be filled with success and distinction.

And bitterly, I asked myself:

“Has everything truly ended? Have those loving prayers and old stories vanished into the darkness of that grave?”

I fell asleep with tears drowning my eyes, carrying the unbearable loneliness left behind by the departure of “Abu Ahmad.”

And that night…

something unimaginable happened.

In my dream, I found myself in a vast space filled with a soft light unlike sunlight or moonlight.

And there, from afar, I saw my grandfather approaching with a radiant face, dressed in white garments, carrying a scent like pure musk.

There was no trace of the illness or weakness that had exhausted him in his final days.

His youth had returned, and his face glowed with profound peace.

I ran toward him and collapsed into his warm embrace just as I did when I was a child.

Overwhelmed by tears, I asked him:

“Grandfather… aren’t you in the grave?”

He smiled, placed his hand gently on my shoulder, and replied in a voice overflowing with serenity:

“The grave is only for the earthly body, my son. As for me, I have crossed into the life of Barzakh… where the heart finally finds peace.”

My grandfather took me by the hand to show me that wondrous world.

It was not the endless silence the living imagine.

It was a gathering place for gentle souls.

I saw groups of souls gathering like white birds speaking beneath the shade of eternal peace.

Suddenly, a newly arrived soul entered that world, and all the souls turned toward it with joy and longing, just as families welcome a traveler who has been absent for years.

They gathered around the newcomer, eagerly asking about those they had left behind in earthly life.

And I saw my grandfather among them as everyone respectfully called out:

“Abu Ahmad, come hear the news.”

My grandfather stepped forward anxiously and asked:

“How are my children? How are my grandchildren? Do they still remember me?”

The newcomer replied calmly:

“They are well, Abu Ahmad… and they still pray for you in every prayer.”

I saw my grandfather’s face brighten with joy as he lifted his gaze toward the heavens.

Then one of the souls asked about a man who had died earlier but whom they had not seen there.

The newcomer answered:

“He died before me long ago.”

A heavy silence fell.

Then the souls quietly said:

“To God we belong and to Him we return. Had he been among the blessed, he would have joined us here.”

In that moment, while still lost inside the dream, I realized a comforting truth:

Death is not the end of the story.

Good souls who loved one another for the sake of God are promised another meeting beyond the unseen veil.

They visit one another.

They remain connected.

They live in a peace untouched by endings.

They watch over us, rejoice in our prayers and charity, and await the day we finally join them.

I awoke with tears soaking my pillow.

But the coldness inside my chest had transformed into a strange warmth.

I looked toward the sky and whispered with a smile:

“Rest peacefully, my beloved grandfather. Live on, Abu Ahmad, in your eternal peace… until the day we meet again, where there will be no separation after it.”
