About this episode

In this episode, we host Mr. Nour Al-Din Samha on an exceptional journey spanning more than four decades in the world of fashion and textile manufacturing. We discover how the story began with a small workshop employing only a few workers before developing into one of the most prominent industrial experiences in Syria. Our guest discusses his beginnings in the 1980s, the challenges faced by Syrian industrialists under a closed economy and the difficulty of securing raw materials, and how determination, a passion for learning, and the constant search for improvement became the true driving forces behind continuity and development.

During the conversation, we explore the story of introducing some of the first international brands into the Syrian market and how this contributed to changing the concepts of retail and fashion manufacturing. We also examine his experiences with European, Italian, and German companies, and the lessons he learned from working according to the highest international quality standards. He shares difficult situations from his career, from searching for raw materials under complicated circumstances to export losses and mistakes that later became among the most important reasons for success.

The episode also explores the journey of establishing the "Talis" brand and how the idea emerged from a belief in the importance of building a Syrian brand capable of competing beyond the country’s borders. It highlights the role played by the family in developing the project and investing in education and expertise to create an integrated system combining management, design, and marketing. He also explains how the company managed to continue operating during the most difficult circumstances while preserving its workforce and production, before later expanding into several Arab markets.

Nour Al-Din Samha also discusses the current state of the clothing and textile industry in Syria, the opportunities he sees for industrialists, and the importance of modernising production lines, investing in quality and marketing, and building local and international partnerships. He emphasises that the future of Syrian industry does not depend solely on the local market, but on the ability to compete and export to global markets.

This episode is not merely a success story from the world of business, but an experience filled with lessons about entrepreneurship, brand building, crisis management, transforming challenges into opportunities, and believing that creativity, expertise, and continuous work can create success regardless of the circumstances.
